Tonnes of drugs seized near Pakistan border
The narcotics weighing 2,000 kilograms were found filled in 56 bags in Bangzar area of Pachir Agam district on Friday night, border police commander for eastern zone, Brig. Gen. Aminullah Amarkhel, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
A group of drug smugglers, who managed to flee, wanted to transfer the drugs to Pakistan's tribal region for processing, he said.
A powerful drug mafia is behind this illicit trade in bordering districts, Amarkhel said, adding that police increased patrols to curb infiltration of smugglers and militants from across the border.
