Another three insurgents were injured in the operation in Golangar area on the outskirts of Pul-i-Alam on Saturday night, spokesman for provincial National Directorate of Security, Syed Hakim Agha, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The joint forces also seized some weapons and detained two local Taliban commanders identified as Abdul Rahman and Abdul Majeed, he said.

Bodies of the dead militants taken to the Logar civil hospital would be released to their relatives on Monday, the official said. The injured fighters and the detained commanders were being interrogated.

The dead rebels included three residents of North Waziristan tribal area of Pakistaninfo-icon, the governor's spokesman, Din Mohammad Darwesh, said.

NATOinfo-icon helicopters bombed the area after a two-hour gun-battle with Taliban fighters on Saturday night, a resident, Sayed Habib, said. "I saw five dead bodies of fighters killed in the air strike," he said.

A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, said the fighters killed 12 foreign troops and destroyed their four military vehicles during the clash. He accepted their nine fighters were killed and three others injured.
