New recreation area opens to Kabul citizens
Funded by US Special Forces, the project cost $500,000 (22.6 million afghanis) and took one year time to complete, Mohammad Yunus Nawandish, told reporters at the inauguration ceremony.
"Before the park, it was a deserted area littered with garbage dumps," the mayor said, adding the area was suitable for the park due its closeness to Abu Qasim Ferdosi high school.
"Kabul city lacks areas for sport and entertainment activities, but the municipality is working on projects to address the problem next year," he said, revealing the US Special Forces had agreed to build seven entertainment parks next year, when a new programme worth $120 million will be launched by the municipality.
“We hope, Kabul dwellers will cooperate with the municipality in keeping the city clean and green,” Nawandish said.
