Janda Bala, flag raising, marked in Balkh
MAZAR-I-SHARIF (PAN): The traditional Janda Bala, flag-raising, took place in northern Balkh province on Monday, a ceremony that traditionally marks the start of the new Afghan year.
Second Vice President Mohammad Karim Khalili, MPs, officials from the consulates of neighbouring countries, guests from Tajikistan and Uzbekistan as well as hundreds of visitors from across the country took part in the ceremony.
The flag-raising took place soon after a military parade and the broadcasting of the national anthem in Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of Balkh, at about 10:00am.
A similar event was also held in Kabul, the capital.
