Disables, families of martyrs to get soon pending salaries: minister

Disables, families of martyrs to get soon pending salaries: minister

Mar 22, 2011 - 20:45

KABULinfo-icon(PANinfo-icon): Families of martyrs and the disable will get soon their monthly stipends, which have been pending for the last six months, the minister said on Tuesday.

Amna Afzali, the minister for social affairs, martyrs and disables, told a Parliamentary commission that the salaries remained pending due to a lack of fund for the purpose.

"Very soon the salaries will be released," she said, adding her ministry planned to give the salaries through banks.

"Salaries to disables and families of martyrs are given through bank in Kabul and this process will be carried out in other provinces as well," Afzali told the commission.

A disable receives 750 afghanis per month and a family of martyr 1500 afghanis per month.

A lawmaker from southeastern Paktia province, Razi Mangal, said the ministry had no office in many parts of the country, with some established on third and fourth floors of buildings. He said the disables were unable to climb stairs up to the fourth floor.

However, Afzali denied they had offices on fourth floors. She said the ministry had offices in all the provinces, but most of them were operational in rented houses.
