Nationwide spring tree plantation drive launched
Three million saplings, including fruit-bearing and fruitless trees, are being provided by the agriculture ministry, five million by non-governmental organisations and the rest by farmers and private nurseries, Rahimi told reporters after planting a tree in Badam-Bagh locality of Kabul.
The campaign, called Samsor (green), will continue until April 5, the minister said, adding 215,000 seedlings would be distributed free of charge.
More than 90,000 saplings, including 30,000 provided by the agriculture ministry, will be planted in Kabul to be looked after by the municipality, he said.
The seedlings are being distributed to offices of different ministries and departments, 183 mosques, 19 hospitals and 140 schools in Kabul, according to Rahimi, who urged the public to look after the new plants.
