Uruzgan blast leaves 1 policeman dead, 5 injured
TIRINKOT (PAN): One policeman was killed and five others were injured when their vehicle struck a roadside bomb in central Uruzgan province early on Wednesday, an official said.
The police were traveling to a security post in the Kakrak area on the outskirts of Tirinkot, the provincial capital, when the bomb ripped through their pick up vehicle, provincial crime branch police chief, Col. Gulab Khan, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
One police official was killed and five others were wounded, he said, adding the injured were taken to a nearby hospital. Their condition is said to be stable, Khan said.
A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, said a number of policemen were killed in the blast that he said came a day after two policemen were captured alive by fighters in the Chora district.
However, Mujahid's claim was rejected by the governor's spokesman, Milad Ahmad Mudassir.
