Grossman travelling to Brussels, Moscow
WASHINGTON (PAN): The Special US Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, Mark Grossman, is travelling to Brussels and Moscow to continue with his broader consultations with the international community, a State Department official said on Friday.
“Following President Karzai’s March 22 announcement of the start of transition, close coordination between the US, our allies and partners is even more essential as we begin to realign our civilian and military resources to support the Afghan Government's increasing responsibility for security and essential service delivery to its citizens,” the State Department spokesman, Mark Toner, told reporters at his daily news conference.
In Brussels, Grossman will meet with NATO and EU partners and participate on a panel at the Brussels Forum entitled, “Bridging the Trust Deficit with Pakistan,” along with UK Defense Secretary Liam Fox and journalist Ahmed Rashid.
In Moscow, Grossman is scheduled to meet with Deputy Foreign Minister Borodavkin, Director of the Federal Drug Control Service Viktor Ivanov, and Special Presidential Representative to Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov to discuss a range of issues related to Afghanistan, including counter-narcotics cooperation, to ensure mutually-reinforcing efforts, Toner said.
