Police commander among 5 killed
TIRINKOT (PAN): Four civilians and a local police commander have been killed in a bomb explosion and an insurgent attack in central Uruzgan and southern Zabul provinces, officials said on Saturday.
Suspected Taliban fighters shot dead the local police commander in Charchino district of Uruzgan on Friday evening, crime branch chief, Co. Gulab Khan, told Pajhwok Afghan News. Two children were also killed in the incident that left another policeman injured, he added.
The commander was offering evening prayers in a mosque when attacked.
Separately, two civilians were killed on Friday when their motorcycle struck a roadside bomb in Shamalzi district of neighbouring Zabul province, the interior ministry said in a statement.
Elsewhere, police clashed with Taliban in Chura district on Friday, but there were no casualties, the governor's spokesman, Milad Ahmad Mudassir, said. he also confirmed the Charchino clash.
Taliban insurgents said they killed two policemen in Tirinkot, Uruzgan's capital, on Friday.
