SHIBERGHAN (PANinfo-icon): The Talibaninfo-icon killed a civilian on the charge of spying for the government and foreign forces in northern Jawzjan province, police said on Saturday.

The victim identified as Gul Mohammad was shot dead by gunmen riding motorcycles in Aidhsk Kotal area of Aqcha district on Friday evening, deputy police chief, Col. Mohammad Ibrahim, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The attackers had managed to flee, but a search operation to hunt them down was underway, he said, adding Mohammad, a shepherd, had no links with the government or foreign forces.

A tribal elder from the area, Ismael, also said Gul Mohammad was innocent.

A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, asserted responsibility for the murder, saying Mohammad was a former commander of the Junbush Milli party and was spying for the government.

Earlier this month, Taliban fighters stormed a house and shot dead two people on similar charges in Qarqin district.
