Berdymukhamedov says ready to provide Afghanistan electricity
KABUL(PAN): Turkmen president Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov has said his country was ready to provide Afghanistan electricity to help it overcome emerge requirements, a presidential statement said on Sunday.
Berdymukhamedov met his Afghan counterpart, Hamid Karzai, on the sidelines of a ceremony celebrating Nowruz in Tehran.
The two presidents also conferred on the regional and international issues and discussed projects, including railway track connecting Afghanistan, Iran, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan, the Presidential Palace said.
The Turkmen president said that a survey for a gas pipeline taking liquefied gas from Turkmenistan through Afghanistan to Pakistan and India was in progress. He said the pipeline would have positive impact on the region after its completion.
For his part, Karzai assured his Turkmen counterpart his government's cooperation in the implementation of the project.
He said the pipeline project would result into enhanced economical ties between the two countries and would create job opportunities for Afghans.
Berdymukhamedov also invited Karzai to visit Ishqabad, the Turkmen capital, after three months, the statement said.
