KABULinfo-icon(PANinfo-icon): More than 10 insurgents were killed in an airstrike by NATOinfo-icon-led foreign troops in Barmal district of southeastern Paktika province on Sunday, the alliance said.

The air weapons team observed and engaged a large group of insurgents armed with rocket propelled grenades in two different known insurgent observation posts, the International Security Assistance Force (ISAFinfo-icon) said in a statement.  More than 10 insurgents were killed, it said.

In the south, an ISAF patrol killed and wounded several insurgents while conducting security operations in Sangin district of southern Helmand province on Saturday, the statement said. The patrol came under machine gun and small-arms fire and after gaining positive identification of the insurgent position, the coalition forces returned fire, killing several insurgents and wounding several others, it said.

In Kandahar, Afghan and coalition forces detained several suspected insurgents and found a drug cache in Zharay district on Saturday. The cache consisted of 1,500 pounds (680 kilograms) of marijuana and 350 pounds (159 kgs) of marijuana seeds, the statement said.
