204kg drugs seized in Jawzjan
SHIBERGHAN (PAN): Police seized 204 kilograms of drugs in the northern province of Jawzjan, officials said on Monday.
The opium, placed in 16 bags in a car, was seized during a police patrol in Shurarigh area on the outskirts of Shiberghan, the provincial capital, deputy police chief, Col. Mohammad Ibrahim, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Two men left the car with the opium on the road and fled when they saw the police patrol, he said.
Police have launched an investigation to detain the two suspected drug smugglers, he added.
"Before reaching the police vehicle, the two men left their car and escaped toward a village," a resident of the area, Yar Mohamad, said.
Police searched the vehicle and found the bags of drugs, he said.
