Wolesi Jirga rejects budget for new year
The budget for the year which started March 21 was approved by the upper house of Parliament, the Meshrano Jirga, three weeks ago. It was then sent to the lower house, the Wolesi Jirga, for approval.
The Wolesi Jirga rejected the budget with majority of votes.
Finance Minister Omar Zakhilwal had appealed to the lower house to approve the budget as soon as possible as it concerned all government affairs and officials’ salaries.
Two days ago, the budget and financial commission of the Wolesi Jirga had some problems and may not receive their approval.
The ordinary budget, suggested by finance minister, was 150 billion afghanis ($3.3 billion) and the development budget was 65.7 billion afghanis.
