Most Baghlan areas purged of militants: Afghan general
"Now in only few areas, the Taliban's presence can be felt," Brig. Gen. Zalmay Wesa, the commander of 209th Shaheen Military Corps, said, vowing to purge the remaining areas clear from Taliban.
He said 20 Taliban fighters were killed in the recently conducted operation that lasted a month. Another 20 fighters and five civilians were injured in the offensive, he added.
Meanwhile, police arrested two drug smugglers along with 19 kilograms of hashish in Baghlani Markazi district.
Elsewhere, Afghan army personnel seized 600 kilograms of hashish in Panjwai district of southern Kandahar province on Monday night, a statement from the Ministry of Defence said on Tuesday.
It added that two rocket propelled grenades and two landmines were also recovered from the scene.
