Prosecutor denies Karzai advisor arrested
Amanullah Eman earlier told Pajhwok Afghan News that the chief of the Afghanistan Investment Support Agency (AISA), Noorullah Dilawari, who is also an advisor to the President Hamid Karzai on bank affairs, was arrested on Tuesday over corruption charges.
But he later told a press conference that Dilawari had been called to give testimony in a multimillion dollar corruption case of a former minister of transport and civil aviation, Anayatullah Qasim, who was detained on Monday in Kabul.
Qasimi was appointed minister of aviation and transport in Dec. 2004 and worked for one year and four months.
He has been accused of causing losses to the government of $9 million linked to a deal to buy four Boeing planes, rent two others and issue licences for others, Eman said.
