Taliban capture Want Waigal district

Taliban capture Want Waigal district

Mar 29, 2011 - 10:11

PAROON (PANinfo-icon): Hundreds of Talibaninfo-icon fighters overran a district in eastern Nuristan province on Tuesday, officials said.

The Taliban attacked the headquarters of Want Waigal at 5am and captured the district after police put up little resistance, provincial police chief, Shams-ur-Rahman Nuristani, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He asked the government to provide weapons, because the police did not have enough arms or ammunition to defend the area.

About 300 Taliban fighters captured the district headquarters on Tuesday morning, the former police chief of the district who still lives in the area, said.

Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, said that they captured the district after police fled.
