2 militants killed in Uruzgan
TIRINKOT (PAN): Two militants were killed and several others detained during an operation in the central province of Uruzgan, international forces and official said on Wednesday.
The joint operation by Afghan security personnel and the International Security Assistance Forced (ISAF) was launched on Tuesday in Tirinkot city, the provincial capital of Uruzgan, a statement from media office of international troops, said.
The two fighters were shot dead by the troops as they tried to attack a patrol. Afghan security personnel detained several other suspects for questioning, the statement said.
The operation was launched in Sar Morghab area on the outskirts of Tirinkot city, commander of fourth brigade of 205th Atal Military Corps, Gen. Mohammad Zafar, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
It was not clear if the detained suspects had links with militant, he said.
Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, did not comment on the operation, but said they had killed four policemen in a roadside bomb on Tuesday in the city.
