A police commander among 4 killed in Herat
HERAT CITY (PAN): Two bomb planters, a police checkpoint commander and a civilian have been killed in separate incidents in the western province of Herat, officials said on Wednesday.
The two militants were planting a bomb in Bakhtabad village of Shindand district, when their explosives detonated prematurely, Lal Mohammad Omarzai, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Their intended targets were the Afghan and international convoys, he said.
Elsewhere, Taliban ambushed a police patrol in Awkal area of the district, killing a checkpoint commander, Omarzai, said.
A civilian on a motorcycle was also killed in the ambush and another guard was injured, he said.
Security personnel detained five suspects in connection with the attack, he added.
Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, said that they killed the commander and his guard. They also took his two weapons, he added.
