Herat customs deptt surpasses revenue target
HERATCITY (PAN): The revenue of the customs department of western Herat province increased to 15 billion afghanis ($329.8 million) last year, showing 39 percent more income compared to previous year's returns, an official said.
The revenue increased by about 4 billion afghanis compared to the previous year when the income stood at 10.5 billion afghanis, the department head, Ghulam Yahya Sarkhush, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Most of the revenue was collected from customs offices and second mostly generated from taxes and passport and traffic department, the official said, linking the increase in revenue to increase in trade activities, taxes collected from Turghundi and Islam Qala ports, and the introduction of computerised system at customs offices and the efficiency of customs officials.
The provincial customs department surpassed by one billion afghanis the annual target set by the Ministry of Finance at 14.5 billion afghanis, Sarkhush said.
