245 kg of narcotics seized, 6 suspects detained
KABUL (PAN): Security forces arrested six alleged drug traffickers and seized 245 kilograms of narcotics from their possession in several provinces over the past 24 hours, the interior ministry said on Monday.
The drugs were seized in northern Jawzjan and Takhar, eastern Nangarhar and central Parwan and Kabul provinces, the Ministry of Interior said a statement.
Up to 204kgs of opium were recovered from a car in Arigh area on the outskirts of Shiberghan, the capital of Jawzjan. The driver had been arrested in connection with the drugs, the statement quoted Lt. Gen. Baz Mohammad Ahmadi, counter narcotics' department head at the interior ministry, as saying.
A man was detained on the charge of possessing 15kgs of opium in Khogyani district of Nangarhar and another man with 20kgs of hashish was arrested in Bagram district of central Parwan province.
Counter narcotics police had recovered four kg of opium and 12 weapons from a house and arrested the house owner in Taloqan City, the capital of Takhar province, the statement said.
Two other people were apprehended with two kg of heroin in Kabul when they were distributing the drugs to addicts, the statement said.
Poppy crop cultivated over 218 acres land has been eradicated in different parts of the country, the interior ministry said.
