KANDAHAR CITY (PANinfo-icon): A high-ranking official delegation from Kabulinfo-icon has arrived in Kandahar city, the capital of southern Kandahar province, to assess lose of life and property damage during violent protest demonstrations sparked by a Quraninfo-icon burning incident in US, an official said on Monday.

Led by parliamentarian Nadir Khan Katawazai, the delegation comprised members of both houses of the parliament and officials from the defence, interior, regional organs ministries and the intelligence directorate, Zalmay Ayubi, the governor's spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The delegation will remain for some days in Kandahar city to asses lose of life and property damage during protest demonstrations on Saturday and Sunday.

At least 16 people were killed and more than 80 others were wounded in the two days of protests against the Florida church pastor, who set light to a copy of the holy book in font of 50 people on March 20.

Katawazai later told a press conference that the delegation sent by President Hamid Karzai would meet local officials, tribal elders, provincial council members and detained protestors.

"Our effort is to find out who led the protests to go violent," the MP said, adding human and property losses were being assessed to report back to the President.
