4 policemen dead in Farah ambush
The policemen deployed to provide security for a highway were attacked at 7am in Masaw village on the outskirts of Farah city, the provincial capital, a security official said.
The attack left four policemen dead, Col. Juma Khan, the deputy coordination head of security forces in the province, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Humayun, a resident, said Taliban ambushed the police from Shahr-i-Kohna bridge on the route leading to Masaw village. The attackers fled after killing some of the policemen, he said.
A Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, claimed police commander Col. Juma Gul was among seven policemen killed in the attack, with another eight policemen receiving injuries. But his claim was rejected as untrue by local security officials.
