The blast took place in Loya Wyala area in the limits of ninth police district of Kandahar city, the provincial capital, in the afternoon, Zalmy Ayubi, the governor's spokesman, said. Five policemen onboard the vehicle were injured, he said.

A doctor at the Mirwais hospital, speaking on condition of anonymity, however, said six injured policemen had been brought to the hospital. One of the injured was in a critical condition, he said.

Another security official, Abdul Raziq, said four policemen were injured in the explosion.

Meanwhile, three Talibaninfo-icon fighters were killed in an overnight clash with police in the Zheri district, according to the governor's spokesman.
