Teen boys fall prey to landmine in Badghis
QALA-I-NAW (PAN): Two teenage boys were killed and a third wounded when a landmine they were playing with went off in northwestern Badghis province, an official said on Tuesday.
The blast happened in Sinihai village of Balamurghab district on Monday night after the three boys of ages between 14 and 17 years found the explosive while taking home household animals from a nearby pasture. The device exploded as they started playing with it, the governor's spokesman, Sharafuddin, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The injured boy was taken to the district hospital and he is said to be in a stable condition, the official said, adding the mine belonged to the Taliban.
However, Aminulhaq, who lives in the area, believed the bomb was likely left over from the civil war and it had reappeared on the surface due rains.
“The boys had gone to the area to bring their cattle home. They found the bomb on their way back and the device exploded when they started playing with it.”
Two months ago, two other teenagers lost their lives as a result of a roadside bomb blast in Muqur district of Badghis province.
