2 suspected militants detained in Paktia
GARDEZ (PAN): Foreign troops arrested two suspected militants in Dand Patan district of southeastern Paktia province, an official and NATO said on Wednesday.
The two were arrested on Tuesday night during an operation by NATO-led ISAF forces, the district chief, Niaz Mohammad Khalil, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He had no further details.
ISAF's media office in Kabul said an insurgent leader and a suspected insurgent were detained by a joint force in Dand Patan district after they had arrived at a checkpoint and were identified.
The force said in a statement the detained insurgent leader was known as improvised explosive devices (IEDs) facilitator. He was also involved in emplacing IEDs and coordinating attacks against Afghan National Security Forces and ISAF in Dand Patan district, the statement said.
The two detainees are currently in custody of Afghan National Security Forces for integration, it added.
The Taliban have not yet commented on the arrests.
