Commanders among 4 rebels killed in Faryab
MAZAR-I-SHARIF (PAN): International troops backed by helicopter gunship killed four militants during an operation in the Qaisar district of northern Faryab province, officials said on Thursday.
The operation was launched on Wednesday night in Khwaja Kanti village, the district chief, Mohammad Siddiqui, told Pajhwok Afghan News. Two Taliban commanders identified as Ghulam Nabi and Janan were among the four rebels killed in the operation, he said, adding another two rebels were injured.
The official said the foreign soldiers also raided the house of a district development council member, Agha Nisar, detaining him with his five guests during the operation. Siddiqui said the detainees had no links with any militant outfit. A delegation, including Siddiqui, had launched an investigation into the case, he said.
The NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in a statement said several militants were killed and detained during the joint operation in Khwaja Kanti village. The operation was carried out in cooperation with area people, the force said in a statement.
