SAR-I-PUL (PAN): Two militants were killed and three others were wounded in a fresh offensive by Afghan and international forces in Sayyad district of northern Sar-i-Pul province, police said on Thursday.
The clean-up operation that began on Thursday targeted Kushta Mazar and Biland Ghor villages, police chief, Brig. Gen. Asadullah Sherzad, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said the operation would continue until the areas were cleared of insurgents. Two militants were killed and three others were wounded in clashes with joint forces on the first day of the operation, he said, adding no civilian was hurt.
A Taliban spokesman, Qari Yusouf Ahmadi, however, claimed the fighters killed five foreign soldiers and wounded six others, including two Afghan soldiers, in clashes.
