MAZAR-I-SHARIF (PAN-led soldiers three days ago in northern Faryab province, an official said.

Disguised in a border police uniform, the man shot dead the Americans inside a police training centre in Maimana city, the provincial capital, on Monday.

The two soldiers were among six others holding talks with Afghan security officials when attacked.

ISAF in a statement said the attacker was killed in an operation involving Afghan and international forces in Maimana with the help of intelligence tip-offs. The force did not reveal the exact location of the operation.

Police spokesman, Lal Mohammad Ahmadzai, said ISAF forces attacked a house on the outskirt of Maimana city and killed the policeman. ISAF forces searched the house, arrested two people and recovered a pistol with magazines from the house.

A senior intelligence official told the Parliament on Wednesday that efforts were in place to identify militants who had infiltrated Afghan police and army.
