17 suspects arrested in Kandahar

KABUL): Afghan army personnel arrested 17 suspected militants during operations in Panjwai district of southern Kandahar province, the defence ministry said on Monday.

Fifteen suspects were detained in Sewri village on Sunday, the ministry said in a statement. A number of weapons and explosives were seized, it said

Another two suspects carrying three mines were arrested elsewhere in the district, the defence ministry said.

Without providing details, the statement also said an officer of the 215th Maiwand Military Corps has been killed in the line of duty.
