KABUL fighters were killed during separate operations by foreign troops in eastern Kunar and Laghman provinces, officials said on Monday.
In Kunar, four Taliban fighters were killed after they attacked a patrol of NATO) in Shergar area of Narai district on Sunday, the district chief, Gul Zaman, told Pajhwok Afghan News. The rest of attackers managed to flee, he said.
A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, accepted the death of only two fighters and injuries to a third in the clash with foreign troops. However, he claimed seven Afghan and foreign soldiers were killed.
Also on Sunday, a Taliban fighter was killed in a clash with security personnel in Shultan area of Shigal district, according to Kunar police chief, Brig. Gen. Khalilullah Ziaee.
Elsewhere, several Taliban fighters were killed in a clash with foreign troops in Qarghayee district of Laghman province, NATO said on Monday.
The clash erupted when a group of insurgents using rockets launchers, hand grenades and light weapons attacked the international troops on Sunday, the alliance said in a statement.
But Zabihullah Mujahid said the fighters killed four foreign soldiers and injured three others in their attack in Mashala Kamar area of Qarghaee district. Two fighters were also injured, he said. But ISAF denied its troops had been killed.
