TIRINKOT (PAN, was inaugurated on Friday. The US-funded project accounted for $28 million.
Deputy Minister of Transport and Aviation Mehdi Saeedi, Australian Ambassador to Afghanistan Paul Foley, Uruzgan Governor Mohammad Omar Sherzad and other officials attended the inaugural ceremony.
The runway would connect the province with the world and help boost residents’ economic position considerably, the governor hoped, hailing the project as significant.
Mehdi told the participants of the ceremony that the Transport and Aviation Ministry planned to reconstruct airports in Nimroz and Badakhshan provinces in the near future.
Ambassador Foley described the runway — 28 metres wide and 2,250 metres long — as a matter of pride for the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force.
