Sport projects launched in Kabul, Parwan
Agreements for the projects, costing $280,000 (12.9 million afghanis), were signed between the National Olympic Committee and Faisal Welfare Foundation in Kabul.
The foundation stone of the half-acre gymnasium was laid near the Olympic Committee office in the capital. It will be completed in six months.
The gymnasium costing $100,000 would be equipped with modern tools, the director of the foundation, Gul Aqa Faisal, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
"Afghan youth need equipment and gyms to become professional sportsmen and that is why we have decided to serve them with such a project," he said.
The stadium would be built in Jabalus Saraj district of Parwan, according to Faisal, who said the $185,000 project would have the capacity to accommodate 18,000 people. It will be completed in a year.
National Olympic Committee chief, Mohammad Zahir Aghbar, appreciated the donations from Faisal Foundation and urged businessmen to take part in similar ventures to prevent the youth from using narcotics and committing crimes.
