Afghanistan beat Nepal in baseball encounter
KABUL (PAN): Afghanistan outperformed Nepal 19-11 in a match of the 1st South Asian Association Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Baseball Cup being held at the Punjab Stadium in Pakistan, an official said on Sunday.
The rivals launched their innings on an aggressive note, with Mohammed Tahir and Mohammed Alam scoring a run each Afghanistan, the Olympic Committee chairman, Mujibur Rahman, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Nepal stormed into lead, as Rajesh, Gowinda, Sandeep and Aneel chipped in with one run each. Afghan batters bounced back in the second innings, scoring another five more runs.
Much to Nepal's chagrin, Afghanistan hit another 11, thanks to Samiullah, Fazal Malik, Nasir, Akhtar, Tahir, Alam, Mohammed Sami, Abdul Rehman and Sher Jan, the official said.
It was Afghanistan's first triumph in the eight-nation contest. In the previous two matches, the national team was downed by Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
