Policeman, militants killed in violence

KABUL militants were killed in separate incidents of violence in central Uruzgan and southern Zabul provinces, officials said on Sunday.

One policeman was killed and two others were injured when their vehicle struck a roadside bomb in Uruzgan, a spokeswoman for the NATO), Marger Necolez, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Crime branch police chief, Col. Gulab Khan, said the blast took place in the Shah Mansoor village on Sunday morning. However, he said the policemen stayed unhurt and a passerby was injured in the explosion.

Witnesses said they saw an injured policeman at the site of the blast.

A doctor at the Tirinkot Civil Hospital, speaking on condition of anonymity, said a critically injured man, brought to hospital, was transferred to a health team.

Elsewhere, armed militants attacked security guards of a road construction company in Qalat, the capital of Zabul province, after a bomb blast, an official said.

Police chief Col. Ghulam Jilani Farahi said the blast that was followed by a gun attack in the Omaki area. Two attackers were killed when security guards returned fire, he said. The guards suffered no casualties.

Two machineguns and a walkie-talkie were recovered from the militants, Farahi said.
