KABUL): Afghan athletes have won four bronze medals in the ongoing International Muay Thai Championship in Iran, an official said on Tuesday.

The championship, featuring 146 players from 28 countries, began on Iran’s Kish Island two days ago, the Afghanistan Muay Thai Federation head said.

Eight Afghan athletes, a referee and an official delegation were attending the event, Amir Hussain Hussaini told Pajhwok Afghan News. Mansur Ibrahimi (in 75 kilograms weight category), Javed Hussaini (63.5 kilograms), Jafar (54 kilograms) and Abdullah Amiri (47 kilograms) won bronze medals.

Javed Hussaini said over the telephone from Kish: “I am so happy having won a bronze medal for my country.” The Korean rival he defeated was a famous Asian athlete, he added.
