Several fighters killed, detained

KABUL): A number of militants were killed and detained in southern Kandahar, central Uruzgan and eastern Kunar provinces, the defence ministry said on Tuesday.

Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers killed several fighters during an operation in Arghandab and Zherai districts of Kandahar and Chora town of Uruzgan.

The army recovered 1,530 machine gun bullets, six landmines with 50 kilograms of explosives, the ministry said in a statement.

A dozen insurgents were arrested in Asmar district of Kunar with a Kalashnikov and two batteries, the statement said, adding the detainees were being interrogated.
