One militant killed, 4 held in Takhar
TALOQAN (PAN): One militant was killed and four others, including a commander, were arrested during a joint operation by Afghan and international forces in the Eshmakash district of northern Takhar province, an official said Saturday.
Afghan and foreign troops raided a house in the Fakhrak village, killing one fighter and detaining commander Abdul Majeed -- also known as Mullah Mujahid -- along with three of his associates, Col. Shah Jahan Noori, the Takhar police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Helicopter hovered over the area late at night for two hours, said resident Ali Ahmad, who had no further details.
The ISAF media office in Kabul confirmed the operation, saying one insurgent was killed and four others were held. Without naming the detained commander, the NATO-led force said he was the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan leader in the province.
