Deeper probe into attack on ministry ordered

Deeper probe into attack on ministry ordered

Apr 24, 2011 - 20:57

KABULinfo-icon (PANinfo-icon): Security officials were directed on Sunday to further investigate last week's suicide attack on the Ministry of Defence in Kabul.

The National Security Council issued the orders after reviewing findings of the initial probe, presented by the defence minister and the intelligence chief.

A number of ministers and security officials presented their reports on the current security situation at the meeting, chaired by President Hamid Karzai.

Last Monday, a suicide bomber managed to enter the heavily-fortified building in the Afghan capital. Three people, including an officer, were killed and six others wounded in the ensuing shootout.

A ban on the sale of military uniforms in open markets across the country would be enforced, a statement from Karzai's office said.

Relevant officials were asked to take legal action against the shopkeepers, selling the uniforms in violation of the ban, the statement added.

The US ambassador to Afghanistaninfo-icon, the commander of ISAFinfo-icon and NATOinfo-icon's civilian representative also attended the National Security Council meeting.
