LASHKARGAH (PAN): A peace council member and former district chief was gunned down by the insurgents in the southern province of Helmand, an official said on Sunday.
Haji Zahir was shot dead at 8:30pm in the Kart-i-Lagan area of the provincial capital, Lashkargah, the governor’s spokesman, Daud Ahmadi, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Zahir was appointed as Marja district chief last year when the Taliban were ousted from the district as a result of a massive operation. Six months later, he resigned and joined the Helmand Peace Counci
