Several rebels killed, weapons seized
KABUL (PAN): Several insurgents were killed and weapons seized during joint security operations by Afghan and foreign forces over the past 24 hours, the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said on Sunday.
The fighters were killed in the Shahid-i-Hasas district of central Uruzgan province, where the combined force raided a compound. Several suspected guerrillas were detained during the operation.
One AK-47 rifle with ammunition, nine grenades and an improvised explosive device were recovered by the soldiers, who took the detainees for further questioning.
Elsewhere in the country, three Haqqani network leaders and several other insurgents were killed in the Nadir Shah Kot district of southeastern Khost province. A senior rebel leader for the district, Saleh Khan, was among the dead.
"He directed explosive-device attacks, logistics and communications for Haqqani insurgents operating in the area. Over the last week, he led 20 fighters in two separate attacks on coalition forward operating bases."
