WASHINGTON (PAN): An ongoing pictorial exhibition on the Afghan-US relationship in Washington is attracting visitors from the city and neighbouring areas.

“This exhibition underscores the history of our good relations and serves as evidence of a positive future between Afghanistan and the United States,” Afghan Ambassador to US Eklil Hakimi said during a visit to the exhibition.

Hosted by the Meridian International Centre in partnership with the US Department of State, the event features 81 reproductions of archival photographs and documents that underline the rich, historical ties between the two countries.

“This exhibit chronicles our long history together through photos of some of the events that have strengthened our relationship over the years. Through our shared values, our unity against common threats and enemies, and our commitment to a more peaceful world, we have deepened our friendship and cemented the bonds between our people,” Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said in her message.

Hakimi said the exhibition offered a historic view of Afghans and their excellent relations with Americans. In seeing these images, people around Afghanistan would gain insight into earlier times and find positive models for the present and future strategic partnership, he added.

Depicting a wide variety of activities, the photographs have never before been assembled at such a comprehensive exhibition. Images and facsimiles dating from 1911 through the 1970s follow the first collaborations between US and Afghan engineers, educators, agricultural experts, journalists, and entrepreneurs.
