KANDAHAR CITY (PAN prisoners, who broke Kandahar central jail, were re-arrested on Monday, the Governor’s House said.
The escapees were caught again as a result of a search operation by the Afghan forces, the governor’s office said in a statement.
One of the major prisons in the country, the detention facility has two subdivisions — one for criminals and another for political prisoners.
The 541 Taliban managed to escape through a 320-metre tunnel dug by the fighters over the last five months, the militant movement said. The tunnel passing police checkpoints has been dug south of the prison.
