JALALABADCITY(PANinfo-icon): Five Talibaninfo-icon fighters were killed and six others injured during a clash with Afghan soldiers on the busy Kabulinfo-icon-Jalalabad highway, officials said on Saturday.

Four soldiers were wounded in the firefight that erupted on Friday in the Abresham Tangi area, the Ministry of Defence said. Two fighters were detained with a Kalashnikov, a machine gun and a rocket launcher.

The bodies of the guerrillas, including a foreigner, lay at the scene, a statement from the ministry said.

The clash erupting at 9am lasted until 5pm, the Sarobi district chief, Hazrat Mohammad Haqbeen, told Pajhwok Afghan News. One fighter was killed and three injured rebels were held with three Kalashnikovs, he said.

He put the number of injured troops at three, saying they were in stable condition.

A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, said a military vehicle of foreign troops was destroyed during the clash. Two soldiers on board were killed and three others injured.

Two fuel tankers and three other International Security Assistance Force (ISAFinfo-icon) supply trucks were torched during the clash. He denied the Taliban suffered any casualties.
