Af-Pak-US talks scheduled for May 3

Af-Pak-US talks scheduled for May 3

Apr 30, 2011 - 16:12

KABULinfo-icon (PANinfo-icon): A trilateral meeting among Afghan, Pakistani and US officials is scheduled to be held in Islamabad on May 3, a Pakistani diplomat said on Saturday.

The allies would be able to move forward in a spirit of togetherness for a resolution of the decade-old Afghan war, Pakistaninfo-icon Ambassador to US Hussain Haqqani said.

In an interview with CNN, Haqqani rejected as fabricated media reports that Islamabad had asked Kabul to drop its alliance with Washington.

"Only last week, Ambassador Grossman (US special envoy for the region) and Pakistan Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir agreed they are going to try and create a trilateral mechanism."

Despite having disagreements on the way forward in Afghanistaninfo-icon, Pakistan and the United States were working together to resolve the problem, he insisted.

Pakistan and Afghanistan are enjoying a warm relationship, according to the envoy, who said: "We want to move forward as partners and friends."
