2 policemen shot dead in Ghazni
GHAZNI CITY (PAN): Two policemen were shot dead by militants on a motorbike in southern Ghazni province, an official said on Sunday -- a day after the Taliban announced the start to their spring offensive.
The shooting took place at 9:00am in the Sanjatag area in the 4th police district, police chief Col. Zarawer Zahid told Pajhwok Afghan News. The assailants escaped after firing at the policemen.
A doctor at Ghazni Civil Hospital said on condition of anonymity that an injured woman had also been brought to hospital. She is stable condition, according to the source.
As usual, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed responsibility for the assault. On Saturday, the rebel movement said it was launching a new offensive against foreign troops and Afghan security forces.
The militants said in a statement on their website they would focus on attacks against military bases, airbases, convoys, heads of foreign and local companies, members of the government and High Peace Council.
