Taliban's IED expert captured in Kandahar
KABUL (PAN): ATaliban leader and two of his associates, including a Sarpuza prison escapee, were captured during a joint security operation by Afghan and foreign troops in southern Kandahar province, the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said on Sunday.
The detained rebel leader allegedly directed explosive device attacks against Afghan and coalition forces in the Pashmol area of Zherai district, the NATO-led force said, blaming his group for a bomb attack in the Ushmad locality on April 22.
Acting on intelligence tips, the combined force targeted a suspected compound in Zherai district and saw a suspect attempting to evade. The security personnel continued with the search and detained the evader. Another evader was also captured during the search.
"Based on the information provided by residents, the insurgent leader was identified and detained," an ISAF statement said. This is the second Taliban explosives expert captured in as many days in Zherai.
