Afghan-American women receive awards

WASHINGTON (PAN have been honoured with awards in excellence by Afghan Ambassador to US Eklil Hakimi.

As part of a new initiative of the Afghan government, a data base of talented Afghan women around the world is being created.

Nazira Azim Karima, a reporter of Arianna international TV, Lina R. Haidari, a reporter of Voice of America (VOA), Shaista Lami, also working for VOA, and Khojesta Fana Ebrahimkhel, an Afghan embassy official received the awards. 

Their achievements have been recognized by Minister of Women’s Affairs Dr. Husn Bano Ghazanfar as dedicated reporters and activities on affairs affecting Afghanistan.

“One of the major achievements of the Afghan government in the past 10 years is the growth of women in different fields. Today 28 percent of Afghan parliament is female and women make up 40 per cent of Afghan media,” the ambassador said.
