Ghor counterterrorism chief shot dead

CHAGHCHARAN (PAN province was gunned down in Chaghcharan, the provincial capital, on Tuesday evening, a senior official said.

Ghulam Yahya was shot dead by two unidentified motorcyclists, who managed to escape the scene, deputy police chief, Col. Abdur Rashid Bashir, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility, but the Taliban warned earlier this week of stepped-up attacks on national and foreign security forces, as well as Afghan government officials.
