PUL-I-ALAM (PAN): An Afghan intelligence operative shot dead a tribal elder and wounded two of his family members in Azra district of central Logar province on Wednesday, an official said.
National Directorate of Security (NDS) worker Abdul Ghafar gunned down Alam Gul and wounded his son and nephew, the district police chief, Col. Bakhtiar Gul, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
With the motive behind the attack yet to be ascertained, the killer remained at large, the police officer said, adding that the case had been referred to the NDS Directorate in Pul-i-Alam.
A provincial council member, Ghulam Yahya Ahmadzai, confirmed the incident, but had no more details. However, a resident said the NDS staffer killed the elder for having links to the Taliban, a charge vehemently denied by the victim’s family.
